Everybody Needs a College Education

My name is Darlene McCoy and I play the viola. It is what I do, and who I am. A viola is a violin with a college education – it is simply something one cannot live without! The viola is like a violin, except it has different strings, is bigger; and its sound is deeper than the violin’s. I have been playing my reject of an instrument since the 4th grade, and ever since I started playing it, it has been a huge influence on my life. When I started playing under Mr. Kevin Sims though, the mere influence music had on my life grew to much more than just that. Being part of The Big Red Music Machine has been the most rewarding experience in my life. I have found a second family, our tradition of excellence is unparalleled in my eyes, and as a senior member of the orchestra this year, I plan to put the astounding amount of love I’ve matured toward making this year the best yet. I not only want to continue our tradition of excellence, but I want to do more.

The family I have found is not only within my own section, but in the orchestra as a whole. As the viola section, we take immense pride in being violas. We’re an uncommon instrument and usually are not recognized for being amazing players. This year, the violas hope to be the best section in the class. Our sectionals are so productive because we work so well together, respect each other, and help each other. I am the viola section’s mother. I take care of us. I make sure our baskets for various events are complete; I make sure our music is in the proper folder, and I help with just about everything in general. As a whole orchestra, my family could fill twenty pages of paper with wonderful experiences. We’ve gone on many trips together, and our bonds are so tight that when I walk into class, I don’t feel like I’m in school, I feel home. We even have Shoeless Friday, and Joke Wednesday! Even the freshmen this year are being incorporated, and are starting to feel those wonderful bonds. When I leave Cordova High, I believe I will be shedding many tears knowing that I will have to be away from my family. Mr. Sims is more than just a teacher to everybody in the orchestra, and to me, he seems more like a father, because I never really had one of my own, and I have learned so much from him in such a short time.

Music is something that allows one to put everything into what they are playing. Passion, rhythm, timing, and accuracy are all things one must have to play and play well. Just being in orchestra has taught me so much about perseverance and hard work. Everything about playing but the passion is hard for me. When Sims says give me emotion; I give him my fiercest anger, my most joyous happiness, or my most remorseful sadness, and when I can’t seem to make my fingers work to play a measure, I don’t stop. I sit there and work on that measure until it is right, because my family is counting on me to play that harmony. I put my heart and soul into everything I play could be the understatement of the year.

This year, I have put more effort into orchestra than ever. I have participated in every event so far, and I plan to create a small concert group. The group will consist of three violins, three violas, and a cello. Besides keeping up with the usual tradition of excellence, we are going to set our own. This group will work hard to perfect whatever piece we play, and the dedication to it will be even unparalleled to the Big Red Music Machine. We’ll call ourselves More, because that is what we’re going to do.

As the entire orchestra, I want every piece we play to be better than the last. I want us to play every note perfectly in tune. I want us to learn more and do more. I do not like to settle for mediocre, and I am determined to always do my best, and project the tradition of excellence to everybody I meet, and in everything I do. I plan to continue this tradition, and to take the lessons and passion I’ve learned from orchestra, and apply them to my studies.

Last Night!

...after Packer got home

was totally wonderfully amazing :]

I'd never gotten a pitchfork before, so Packer and I decided that we could do the Halloween event to blow some time...

He doesn't really care for event items, but I love them and I love to do events in general!

SE usually fails, but hey, you have fun trying to do whatever horrid thing they came up with anyway...

I personally thought rounding up buffalo was kinda fun...!

Anyway, why last night was so amazing was because my wonderful Pecker is just that -

wonderful

He is such a sweetie... always does whatever with me just because he knows I'll enjoy it
and HEY! We had a lot of fun in the process!

So we ended up getting HQ Pitchforks!

...cause someone who's pure evil just can't have a NQ Staff!!

Goodness no.

I wouldn't give up my time with him for anything... :]

Man, lol

So leveling DNC today...

got this NIN in my party...

using like, a level 13 dagger.

...not even a good one...

and an Aspir Knife!

I left that party a little later.

1,000 exp an hour isn't really my thing, and hey!

I'm not hungry and my homework is done now :]

But anyway, it's pretty bad when people think you're RMT when you leave a party because you sucked so bad.

So, seriously people, stop failing.

We're gonna start calling GMs on you!

...I can't wait until Packer gets home

Insane

Written during Freshman year--

I have decided that after reviewing my sentence that I am completely insane; not the normal type of insane either, I am the type of insane which is insane among being insane, for I am insanely insane, crazily insane, annoyingly insane, happily insane, and I am still insane compared to insane because I have just written one sentence in which I say I'm insanely insane for a class that puts insane sentences like these in my thoughts, which, by the way, are insane.

:] Love it!

One of My Favorite Poems

Dancing

I wish I were dancing
Floating across the floor
He is wearing a suit
I, a gown
The music, sweet and melodious
Finds me twirling in a fantasy land
Filled with happiness
Laughter
Love
His warm embrace
Tickles my senses
And my heart surges forward
And then
As I am looking into his eyes
Searching every corner of his perfect soul
I stop
And realize that I'm not in a ballroom
Not in a gown
I'm just standing, staring into his eyes
And I'm dancing

Old Story - The Stampede

Just a read-for-fun-- has nothing to do with FFXI!

Wooo~

Wrote this last year for Junior Honors English!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Stampede

The eighth grade is one of the two years you are on top of the school food chain - well, there is the fifth grade too, but when you're that small nobody cares what grade you're in. I was sitting and twittling my thumbs in Miss Fryckman's Honors English class, watching the clock with more and more anticipation with each passing second. The class was seeming to drag on more slowly than usual that day, or maybe I was a bit jittery, who knows? The seconds filed away, and when the bell, that beautiful sound of freedom, rang, my moment of joy was interrupted by Fryckman's command to sit back down. Damn woman. I breathed out a hopeless sigh to myself while she went over what was due, the classes' attitude, or something. It really didn't matter, because I didn't care, I just wanted to leave. I was free for a whole thirty minutes and I was going to get to it.
When she finally released us from the dark hole of boredom that was her classroom, I strolled aside happily, found a few friends, and headed to the south lunch room, because we had decided as a group that we liked it more. When we arrived, apparently there was pictures for the sixth graders or some other event going on. I sure found it funny that we didn't notice anything taking place in the north lunch room, but yeah, we were all a bit "blonde," as I liked to say. Anyway, somebody told us we could sit outside - for the first time since the first trimester of the sixth grade. It was amazing. Outside? What?! I grinned to myself with a childish happiness.
But a dilemma arose - ! Oh where, where were we to sit? It's a shame there really was no dilemma, but it was fun to make it seem like one. So we decided to sit right in the middle of one of the pathways connecting the two block things; I really don't remember what they were called. And we were cool. We were six kids: Alex, Cindy, Greg, Cody, myself, and Ricky, the Asian. Even in our odd place of dining, which highly amused us, we continued lunch as normal.
Chatter as usual commenced, and Greg interrupted everyone else's conversations with a blonde joke. It always had to be a blonde joke. Everyone liked them. Everyone.
I sighed as I knew my doom was coming and would take me with it, like Death himself.
"So there was this brunette standing in the middle of some railroad tracks, and she was swingin' her arms and saying "24!" over and over again."
Greg smirked at his own joke.
"Then this blonde comes up, and asks the brunette what she was doing. She explains, and asks the blonde if she would join her."
The smirk widened.
"The blonde jumps happily on the railroad tracks and starts chanting 24 with the brunette. Then a train comes."
Greg couldn't contain his laughter much longer.
"So the brunette gets off the track, but the blonde doesn't. She gets ran over, and the brunette gets back on the track and starts chanting "25!"
Laughter arose, and after it settled, I cocked my head to one side and stated blankly, "I don't get it."
Laughter roared this time, I got slapped, and Alex was bored.
Alex was always bored. The kid was weird, and still is today. It sure took a good amount of "freakness" to keep him entertained - and it still does. So, by some evocation of an odd corner of his mind, Alex suggested with a stupid smile on his face, "Lets sing."
I looked at him with an eye full of curiosity and wonder; to this day, I still wonder. He grinned retardedly, which could be better said as boyishly, either way the kid had a crazy look on his face. It would make anyone giggle. He opened his mouth and at first breathed out a small, "Koombaya, my lord, koombaya." He repeated with more zeal. Now see, I was quite an odd kid myself in the eighth grade, so I took a deep breath, looked at Cody and Cindy for approval, but not Greg, because he never approved of my personal oddness and just mooched sodas off of Alex. I received answers of one lit up face, and a head shake, but it was all the approval I needed to join Alex, who was now blurting out his song, or whatever you'd call that racket. I started "singing" along, and soon after everyone was singing happily, even party pooper Greg. We looked a bit crazy, but whatever, we were much happier than the uptight people that thought we were crazy.
A few more of our friends who wore the name of FREAKS NOT GEEKS proudly on their personalities walked right on over to us, and stared, dumbfounded, for a bit. All it took was a small amount of encouragement from Alex and I to get them to join us, and they did near instantly.
By then, though, we had finished our food, and we were not ones to stay still. Being weird without trouble was how we rolled. We were the FnG. Everyone stumbled up, and we started walking aimlessly around the campus, continuing our song. Then, of course, Alex had another bright idea. I sure felt bad for the girl that passed by us, Kristen Huges, because as "silly" as Alex was, we followed him and his ridiculous idea.
The group of kids, the FnGers, now at least ten strong, circled our victim, and subjected her to our awful performance of Koombaya. I could barley sing, I was laughing so hard. I believe that Kristen was weirded out, but I also think she enjoyed it all the same.
For about the next five minutes or so, we found more victims, let them "enjoy the show," and continued on our way. It was something to do.
But then - we found our target. We didn't even know we were looking for him, but there he was. His bald head was glistening in the bright sun.
Spivak. We had found Spivak.
There is no other way to describe what happened next but simply, "all hell broke loose." A swarm of hyper kids, already excited by previous performances of the day, exploded. We were a horde of buffalo, and our wonderful dinner was waiting for us. Insanity and eighth graders fused, and the blob that was created rushed madly across campus. It was quite surprising that we didn't hit the oh-so-precious grass, which was to be kept nice for our graduation, even if we didn't care. This was Sparta. We rampaged, we charged, we put the Crusaders to shame.
Then - Mr. Smith put us to shame. The horde of buffalo had met Buffalo Bill, and he was waiting for us with a massive, and loaded, shot gun. It's really quite funny how a dozen kids can stop immediately in the presence of a rather cranky-looking Vice Principal. He shook his head at us, and gave us the look of shame. I think it was supposed to make us feel bad, or something or the sort. We all rolled our eyes, probably in time, and nodded to the VP, in anything but agreement. He asked us to sit down on a convieniently placed - and large bench. We complied, even in total defiance, and sighed to ourselves as our target entered a restricted area. He smirked at us, he had a cocky smile, he thought he had won. No Spivak was to get past the FnG though, it was just not the way life worked. Silly teachers.
A bright idea poped into my head, it was one of the few good ideas I had all year, well, besides the classroom. It came to me that we should stalk our prey; wait for him. Among all of us, we decided that he had to come out of the office eventually, since Greg and Alex had him for algebra after lunch.
We waited and waited, and the impending doom of the bell concluding lunch crept up on us silently. It was a killer. But, as soon as the mere thought of him not returning to his classroom until the bell rang scurried across our minds, he emerged. He emerged from the rabbit hole, and twelve Elmer Fudds were waiting with a loaded arsenal of assorted firearms.
We let our prey observe his fate, we let him creep wairly into our trap. As he approached us, we formed a line, a barrier of insane eighth graders joined by the love of fun. We would win. Our voices would be heard, literally.
Spivak broke out into a run, which I would of found hilarious usually, but I was trying to gather my strength, I was concentrating on our mission. The rabbit was taking its chance, its only chance. This rather large man, the one with no hair, the Spivak, plummeted into our line of crazy. We lunged, we bent, and we almost broke, but we were strong. Everyone, the FnG, surrounded our final victim, and let our voices soar with the beauty of the absolute most disgusting vulture's wings.
It was horrid, but oh-so-amazing.
Spivak was struggling, he was putting more effort forth to break free. The man had an idea. He threw a quarter at us, and yelled gallantly, "Use that to buy singing lessons!"
Now, a quarter was not a whole lot of money, and never will be, but it was super yummy chocolate milk for me, and it must of been something for everyone in the group, because we all lunged for it. What was already a jumbled mess turned into an incomprehensible tangle of noise and limbs. In the midst of all the chaos, Spivak saw his chance again, and that rabbit took it. Instead of attempting to penetrate our barrier, he succeeded. As soon as he broke free, we realized our mistake. But, we decided, we had accomplished our mission, and we got a quarter out of it. Spivak getting away before we had planned was just a minor casualty. All was well, we were happy, and Alex was entertained.
The next bell, our real doom, rung clearly through the sunlit sky, and as I finished my hysterical laughter and hi-fives among the group, I smiled to myself. This was what life was all about. Fun. We were different. I basked in the glimmer of friendship and I made my way to Lemon's class chanting, "Hell no! We won't go!" Life was good.

Waaaay Off Topic

No on Prop 8, fuckers.

No LS for me...

Pack thinks that I won't be able to spend enough time with him because I'm nice and would attend every event... even though they aren't required

Which is probably true...

So I guess I'll just sit here, write, and find a hobby...

Maybe I'll cook and fish.

Who doesn't love food in general?

I do... I love food...

In life...

but more importantly, he said ok!

so is it okay for me to join 'Tek...?

Well, apply, haha!

I hope I could join...

I don't want to sleep.

Though, school tomorrow is going to be easy.

There's really no point in me not sleeping though

Also - Wal*Mart and Disney are going to take over the world.

We're gonna have Warehouse Store Musical IV sometime in the future...

Oh, my goodness.

XD my rambling is horrible!

Salut!

You Know!

This blog could be add WHM.
As in adding a WHM!
or the idea of WHM
or WHM-type things

I dunno, whatever floats your boat!

Now see, I like both explanations.

WHAT TO DO!

...or maybe this blog could be adding to the world of WHM!

Right...

Disclaimer:

Everything posted on this blog is what I think
...and if you don't like it get your own damn blog!

Just kidding. Sorta.

I haven't done any tests, I'm not hardcore, I play on PS2... I don't even have access to Windower :O (boy do I wish I did...!)

I write what I write from experience, and if you'd like to correct me that's cool.

Just don't be a jerk about it!

I also realize nobody has commented this blog yet and I'm basically talking to myself.

But I'm cool with that. XD

WHM Sub Jobs

A WHM's sub job is a very important thing to have right.

Sometimes you really will need that ES Slow.

...or that super cool half mp thing that allows you to nuke with banish moar!!

Just kidding.

Anyway, WHM sub jobs!

Scholar
Oh my God, I love SCH sub. -10% MP for all white magic, shorter casting time, Conserve MP, strategems, and Dispel! How could you not love SCH sub?! It's amazing. Personally, I'd use SCH sub 24/7 if it were not for the need of ES Slow or traveling purposes. (Whoever runs around without /BLM is crazy...) The only downside of SCH sub is no Warp. Damn, sometimes I really miss Warp.

Black Mage
BLM used to be the best sub for WHM (imo). Conserve MP, ES, and access to Sleep, Escape, and Warp are all very good things.

Summoner
I used to live by WHM/SMN, now I laugh at them. Yes, the MP gain is cool, and you get Auto-Refresh. That's just dandy. But the limited BPs you have with a SMN sub doesn't nearly make up for the abilities you lose by not subbing BLM or SCH. Also, Conserve MP will help more in the long run than Auto-Refresh! Seriously! So basically, don't use SMN sub unless you're doing something really weird or just playing around... I don't know if there's even anything to use SMN sub on anymore...

Red Mage
RDM is a great sub for BALLISTA. It really shouldn't be used for much else... Fast Cast is amazing, and having easy access to Dispel is cool, so is Phalanx, but once again, you're sacrificing the abilities of BLM or SCH sub for small things. On the other hand, RDM sub is kinda cool for soloing, or just playing around. It's not a bad sub but there's definatley much better.

Ninja
WHM/NIN is great for melee WHM! Yess, go melee WHM! :] ...but that's about it. You can use it on like King Vinegarron... if you ever get the chance to kill it... some people sub NIN to Ultima... but you're basically sacrificing your sub job for another club and Utsusemi. Not worth it unless you're doing something special (or meleeing in campaign!)

I really can't think of anything else anyone else would sub... so I guess I'm done!

Also, a WHM subbing SMN inspired this post :]

In Case You're Wondering

I may or may not post information about my jobs again.

I'll do it as I see fit/get really bored.

Or in the chance I come across some moron doing it all wrong!

That drives me insane.

So actually, writing this, and thinking about this concept

I need to make another post.

XD

Dilema Solved

Looks like its 'Tek or nothing.
Hm, kinda figured things would work out this way...

duckHUNT is cool, but I was right

'Tek would be more of a home for me...

The people are cool and all... but I dunno...

Anyway I now have a new dilema:

Do I even apply to Magitek? lol

Losing time with Packer would be terrible.

Seriously, talking about the end of the world here...

Pecker > all, always!

I don't know! Back to research

Besides, I need to get the skinny on every LS before I make a choice :]!

I also learned today that Ephram is 17 years old and is from Colombia
...that guy is freaking crazy.

Maybe I'll talk to Trey more

I'd really like to join 'Tek but I just have to make an informed decision

No more insanity!

Dark Ixion

Did Dark Ixion for the first time in like half a year yesterday...
Mr. Funk (Grizzfunk) asked me to come help duckHUNT kill the pony...
so, after jokingly telling him I'd rather be decapitated, I proceeded to lend a hand...
I've got to say, it was much better than I'd expected

and holy God, Grizz is an amazing tank.

Freakin' Ella always got to be WHM for the good tanks... God damned bastard!

:] <3 home for me...

I DON'T KNOW AHHH

...I also gotta stop typing and go to school...

...freakin' mile

Dilema

I really want a new LS.
Like really really really bad!

So I basically have two choices...

Magitek or duckHUNT

but I also have to run the mile today
...and my kitten is attacking my feet

Ahhh think think think!

At least VQ is totally out of the picture... I watched them at Tiamat yesterday and God there is no way in hell I'd ever even think of returning now.

Though, I do miss some of my wonderful friends... :(

Samurai

Is super fun.
A subjob I actually enjoy, what is this!
And gogo 4-27 in one weekend!

Boy, I am proud.

Seriously!

Also today is mine and Packer's 1 year wedding anniversary!

Go us! Wooo :]

...but he fell asleep!

Saturday, October 18, 2008

Gah

Its 1 AM, can't sleep, but my kitten is super duper cute!
Horray :D

Anyway, also gah, my darn computer died...
So if I want to write... I gotta write out here... on Mom's comp...

but in other lighter words, my MH looks amazing but I need 2 Commodes!

{Help desk} si'l vous plait.

About ADD WHM

The ADD is not add, it is A D D
as in the disorder.
I generally space off and zone out playing WHM, and my friends ask me if I was looking at pretty rocks, etc.

WHM of course, because it is my main job on FFXI!

I'm now basically retired, and need something to do every other weekend.
Finally, I found it!

I'm excited to start writing this blog and giving basically basic information on my jobs.
It keeps me occupied.

I also just like to talk a lot.

Enjoy my silly rants and even sillier victories!

WooHoo!

After 4 years, I now have my own pair of

Take that, you damned lizard hoe!

Horray, hahahahahaha

Gonna start DRG soon :] My first DD job!

WHM Magic

Do you know why a WHM is called a White Mage?
Is it because we do killer damage with our hardcore Banish nukes!?
Hell no it isn't!
C'mon people, get real.
Seriously. Cast Regen instead of it, okay?

Anyway, a rundown of what a WHM actually does.

Cures - Cure, Cure II, Cure III, Cure IV, Cure V

1. Cure - you're basically only going to use this at lower levels. It's only going to heal about 40 HP at the most, but very useful due to its low MP cost to wake people up with.

2. Cure II - this cure is a God send in Valkrum Dunes. It heals anywhere from ~62-114 HP, depending on your level and gear. It's great for a quick fix.

3. Cure III - Horray, Cure III! This cure heals about ~180 HP. It also generates a good amount of enmity. It is about your staple cure at 75.

4. Cure IV - Cure IV generates quite a bit of enmity and could possibly put you over your tank's hate and get you smacked around a bit. Try to avoid it if possible, and generally, if somebody isn't dying, throw out a Cure III instead. It heals about ~420 HP.

5. Cure V - the grand daddy! Cure V is the fattty! Stack as much MND
(MND > Healing Magic) and Cure%+ as possible. It has a hefty MP cost of 135 MP. Only use in emergencies, to try and save MP. Generates less enmity generally than Cure IV. HP recovered depends on the WHM casting! :]

--All cures deal damage to undead.

Curaga - (I, II, III, IV)
--AoE Cure spells. Great for waking everybody in your party up quickly or getting everybody's HP up. Can cause a lot of enmity and can have a beastly MP consumption. Divine Seal + Curaga after a fight = good; during a fight = bad.

Regen - (I, II, III)
--Regen is the most MP conservative spell in the game. Especially during low levels, it is the most amazing thing. Always stick it on your tank, because they will love you for it! Once you reach higher levels, and more fast-paced fights, Regen may take a bit too long for your liking to cast. Also, in fights with multiple healers, the other healers may heal your target to full, making your Regen useless anyway. It personally drives me mad! Regen is your best friend that you must use wisley.

Status Removal Spells (-nas)

1. Paralyna - removes paralysis. 12 MP, short recast.

2. Silena - removes silence. 24 MP, short recast.

3. Poisona - removes poison. 8 MP, short recast.

4. Blindna - removes blindness. 16 MP, moderate recast.

5. Stona - removes petrification. 40 MP, short recast.

6. Viruna - removes plague and disease. 40 MP, short recast.

7. Cursna - removes curse and doom (doom less likley to be removed, additional casting or Cursna will probably be required) 30 MP, moderate recast.

--DD and/or tanks will generally yell and scream until they receive the -na they are asking for. Don't feel bad - and its always okay to tell them to shut it sometimes. :] You'll use Cursna and Viruna the least, the first five more, depending on the monster.

Erase
--Erase is your cure-all for other status alignments such as Attack Down, Defense Down, and Evasion Down. It removes alignments such as Bio and Dia, but will not remove a regular status alignment. It has a moderate recast, but it isn't too bad. 18 MP.

Raise - (I, II, III)
--People love WHM for the spell Raise. It revives a "dead" player, and recovers some experience lost due to the death. All of them have a high MP cost though, 150, 200, and 250, respectively, and an even longer recast time. Generally in a party, you're going to want to wait if a member dies to Raise them so others don't die in the process, but if you have the time and spare MP, getting them up as soon as possible is good, too.

Reraise - (I, II, III)
--Reraise does the same thing that Raise does, but it is a self-target spell for the WHM only. Reraise is a spell that should always be on. If it drops, you need to get it back on fast, because in the five minutes you wait to put it back on, your party is going to wipe. Yes, the game does hate us all. It will also become your best friend for exploring dangerous areas.

Protect/Shell - (I, II, III, IV, V*)
--These are your basic "buffs". They are important to keep up, especially shell in situations where you or your party will be dealing with a lot of magic damage. They last 30 mintues. WHM has Protectra and Shellra which allows the WHM to cast buffs in an area of effect (AoE) for the MP cost of a singular buff. WHM also recieve the singular versions of these buffs.

* aquired through merit

Barspells
--Barspells are more "buffs" that give the player and others in the AoE a certain resistance to an element.

Wind > Earth > Thunder > Water > Fire > Ice
Light <=> Dark

These spells are extremley useful. Each element corresponds with a status alignment. WHM recieves the basic 6 elements, but not Light and Dark.
Wind - Silence, Gravity
Earth - Slow
Thunder - (generally used to prevent magic damage, usually opponet's element of choice)
Water - Poison
Fire - Disease
Ice - Bind, Paralyze

By casting these spells, you may increase the chance that you and/or your party members may resist the corresponding status alignment.

There is also a 2nd set of barspells. These spells reduce the duration of a status alignment.
(Barpoison, Barblind, Barparalyze, Barsilence, Barblind, Barsleep, Barpetri, and Barvirus.)
WHM recieves only the AoE version of both sets of barspells, which isn't a bad thing! These take a bit to cast and generally a WHM doesn't use them often. They are helpful though.

Stoneskin
--Stoneskin is an earth based spell that absorbs damage for you! Once you get this spell, you're going to want to stack as much MND as possible. It is very easy for a 75 WHM to reach the cap. Stoneskin will allow you to rest even if you are hit, that is until it wears. It is a life saver and a buff to keep up constantly. Due to its longer casting time, try to put Stoneskin up before combat. Generally it'll take one or two hits for you, depending on the monster. It will cap at 256 Enhancing Magic and 94 MND (total). Stoneskin lasts 5 minutes.

Blink

--Blink is a spell that absorbs damage for you using shadows. It isn't always totally reliable, but it is a good spell to have up. It takes about the same time to cast as Stoneskin, and lasts 5 minutes.

Aquaveil
--Aquaveil helps reduce casting interruptions. Its a nice spell, but not necessarily a buff you need to keep up constantly. Lasts 5 minutes.

Haste
--Haste is a fabulous spell that increases your target's attack rate and lowers his or her recast timer. 40 MP sucks, but it is totally worth it. It lasts approximately 3 minutes. (Tip: Cast a Barspell before your Haste order to give yourself a reminder of needing to refresh the cycle.) Always try to keep Haste up if you can. Very important to especially tanks and DD who use shadows.

Enfeebling Magic
--As a WHM, your enfeebling magic isn't top notch. As a rule of thumb, if there is a RDM present, let them do it.

1. Paralyze - paralyzes a target. Super useful, since it can nullify a monster's attack completely. Stack MND and enfeebling magic+ gear. If the mob is resistant, add more enfeebling magic gear than MND, and if it isn't add more MND. Ice based spell.

2. Slow - slows a target. You basically just want to get this spell on. Slowing a target makes it attack slower, which means overall, less for you to heal. Earth based spell. After making sure you can stick this spell to whatever monster, stack MND.

3. Silence - silences a target. Stack enfeebling magic and magic accuracy+ gear. Wind based spell.

Repose
--Repose is a light-based sleep spell that lasts for a minute and a half (1:30). It is amazing. It has a decent recast timer, but it generally isn't a problem. It hardly ever resists, unless your Divine Magic is lacking. Great for helping out sleepers in dynamis or other events. MND might help Repose but it might not. Its never a bad thing to stack MND while playing WHM. :]

Banish and Banishga
--Banish is a single target light based spell that does damage and lowers an enemy's defense for a short time. Banishga is the AoE version of the spell. Compared to other damaging spells, Banish isn't the greatest thing to cast. You're going to want to save your MP for other things. A good time to use Banish though is if you/your party/alliance are fighting a ghost type mob. It is based off of your Divine Magic, and adding MND will help with the spell overall.

Teleportaion Spells
--Teleportation Spells are spells that transport you and qualified party members to a "telepoint" somewhere in Vana'diel. All teleports have a long casting time, and use anywhere from 75-100 MP.
1. Dem, Mea, and Holla - your three basic spells. These Transport members to their respective crags and also allow quick acess to Lumoria (sea).
2. Yhoat and Altep - these teleports transport members to the more remote areas of Yhoatar Jungle and Eastern Altepa Desert, respectivley.
3. Vazhl - transports members to Xarcbard.
4. Recall-Meriph, Recall-Pashh, Recall-Jugner - teleportation spells that take members to the past, to the respective telepoints.

Deordorize, Sneak, and Invisible
--These three spells lessen the chance that a monster will be able to smell, hear, or see you. Be careful though, some monsters may attack you due to your casting, so always be aware of your surroundings.

First Post!

Hi. I'm a Kilye.
I've been playing FFXI since the 8th grade... yes, I am a hardcore nerd.
And I'm going to write about it.
First of all, I play the jobs
White Mage
Red Mage
Summoner
Scholar

(Yep, only 4 75s in about 4 years of playing!)

And it annoys the hell out of me when people fail... seriously
and since I have all the time in the world considering my departure from Vanquish
why not write!

I started off in a small shell called MagesStar
made wonderful friends, and it was my home for a loooong time...
but when my best friend, Dragance, was removed from that shell, he explored other opportunities in FFXI.
One of those being "endgame" -
I personally had never been interested, but I had always been interested in spending time with him!
Anyway, I'd just sit and wait for him to be done killing whatever he was killing... why he took 3 hours to kill it, I had no idea, but that was okay.
But one day! This friend of mine said that his LS needed a WHM (my only job at the time, level 68 AF and RSE WHM, go!) at this thing called... behemoth.
Since there was a super sweet person who now refers to me as "his daughter" there.
I received a pearl to the linkshell, Vanquish.
I didn't know what Vanquish was. I didn't know anything about endgame. I just thought it was nice that I got to spend time with my fabulous friend!
Did I mention the fact that I also loved him to death?
My old linkshell, MagesStar, which was now MagesStarTwo by now because the leader had accidentally dropped the original, was quite frustrated to see me go. I think I lost a few friends until they calmed down. They were edventually happy for me, but boy did it take some teeth pulling.
Anyway, my first day of Vanquish we were off to kill this beast called Fafnir. What's a Fafnir? I don't know. Drag even told me we might be fighting Nidhogg. It was all gibberish to me.
It was Father's Day, and I soon learned what a Fafnir or a Nidhogg was. We had a small team, maybe 12 people - which honestly, was big to me, but yeah, small team. Luck turned our way, and hey! We won the claim. On Nidhogg. I guess that he is Fafnir's daddy. Everything was going perfectly fine until one of our members pulled something called a Darter. It's a stupid fly with annoying wings, and they also link about 5 others. They suck. So, dealing with those and a rather angry dragon at the same time is a much difficult thing. I was trying my best, but I don't think that it was physically capable for us to survive. I don't really know.
Anyway, we wiped. Happy Father's Day! What a wonderful first experience with HNM, but I honestly had found it fun, and although we did wipe, I got good comments. That was exciting!

I continued on with Vanquish forever after that. We camped Fafnir and these other HNM called Behemoth and Adamantortise and their daddys, too. It was great. We'd get people stuff, have fun, and most importantly, show that dragon who was boss! Yay!
The shell edventually broke due to our leader, Deevo, needing to take a break.
We formed into two different shells then, VINTAGE and Zion.
VINTAGE was lead by an elf (all elvaan are referred to as elf, and elfs is my way of saying elves) named Lorikete. He was in way over his head. I joined that shell, as I thought most of my friends would too. It's a shame I hardly knew anything about anyone in Vanquish then. Well, VINTAGE lasted about a month, maybe two. Then Lorikete quit. Then my friend Drag quit... I went back to Zion, and my "online parents" (Kingkai and Cyndel) as I soon considered them lead that for a while. Something happened to them, though, and this amazingly compassionate guy named Packer took over the shell. There was nothing better as we reached heights not even thinkable in the original Vanquish. We also switched back to the original shell name and color. Before we knew it, we had a wall of Dalmaticas and gear dropping at such an alarming rate we needed new members to keep up with all the stuff we were getting! Yeah, life was good.
Time and time went on again, and some new SH were appointed to try and help Packer out. He was getting tired of leading everything, which was totally reasonable.
The new SH, Grok, Grizzfunk, and Ellatrix did a good job. They knew what they were doing, and they did it well.
We got more stuff, we made more people smile.
We also made Kupo cry.
Man, those were the times.
Sometime in December 2007 Omen asked Vanquish for a merge.
So we did that. We had like 50 billion members, and a kill team for any HNM on all the time.
We got everything. Holy God, I'd never been in a LS that demanding.
It was insanity.
But... this new amazing linkshell's ways weren't cutting it for me. I edventually left Vanquish, for the first time.
I posted an application to the shell Magitek, the only other big shell I'd apply to - ever. I think I was accepted, but alas, a good friend by the name of Grizzfunk convinced me to try Vanquish again because it was my home, and he also promised me that things would change.
Things did change.
It was good again.
Not amazing, but good.
We did Salvage, Einherjar, Dynamis, Limbus, HNM (every kind of HNM), and I did Assault on the side. Boy, was I a busy girl!
After a while a SH got to be too obsessed with his power, and started abusing it.
Many people were treated wrongly, and I grew rather sick of it.
Packer was too stressed to do much about it, and finally gave up leadership.
About a week later, he asked to be a SH again, which was granted.
Maybe about another week later, my friends and I did a Salvage run without said SH afore mentioned.
And now we are no longer members of Vanquish.
One person was too important to a shell to lose 8 members. (Kronis, Jinyna, Packer, Stammer, Grizzfunk, Grok, Shredder, Kilye (me!))

Ah, darn.

Now I regard Vanquish as the new "Kupo" and reside in a linkshell with the 8 removed called OuterHaven.

It's cool.

I also chill with my old friends in MagesStarReborn.

(It's Reborn now because the guy who dropped MagesStarTwo quit and we needed another leader!)

But not Rosaire, because he drives me crazy!

Anyway, that's my life story. Go WHM!
